Cycling to Work - MYTHS BUSTED

128504519

According to the BBC today, 80% of people aged 40 - 60 are risking their heath through lack of exercise and bad diet. The most popular excuse for lack of exercise is "not enough time".

So, why not cycle to work? You need to get there anyway, and riding your bike will get that bit of exercise needed to keep you healthy. Here are the top 5 excuses for not riding "BUSTED".

1. Cycling is dangerous. It's a greater risk to not exercise, and statistically, more car drivers and pedestrians are injured on the road than cyclists. We can help you ride more safely by choosing visible clothing, good lights & commuting techniques. After all, we ride ourselves!

2. You have to be fit. You can vary the pace and effort in your cycling. You don't have to be as fit to walk as you do to run, and the same goes for riding a bike. Just keep your pace down to start with and take a break if you start to get winded.

3. You get sweaty and there are no showers at work. Again, you don't have to attack your ride like it's a race. Just take it easy. Also, electric bikes are a specialty at Stows, and you can let the motor take the strain when the road goes up hill.

4. Quality bikes are expensive. Cheap and poorly built bikes are heavy, uncomfortable and hard to ride. However, you don't need to spend a fortune to get a quality bike. Our bikes start at just £139 fully built and including a free service. If you want to go for a more expensive model, we have interest free finance on all bikes over £560. You'll also save fuel and other running costs on a car or public transport, so you'll save money overall!

5. Roads were built for cars. That is not true. Apart from motorways, cyclists have every right to be on the road. Emission-free vehicles pay no "road tax", and your bike is emission-free, so you don’t need to be bullied by self-righteous car drivers. The safest way to ride is too keep a meter our from the edge of the road, so drivers cannot try to squeeze past.
